I have been overwhelmed both with encouragement and offers of support for me to stand as an Independent candidate at the next General Election against the main three party’s. Our victory in June 2009 at the County Council elections and the increase in the “Independent” vote across the constituency has shown that we can not only put up a good fight, but we can also win an election against the other party’s. But until the government finally calls the election, which could happen anytime between now and June 2010 there are no official candidates. Those intending to stand describe themselves as prospective parliamentary candidates. Once you become a candidate your election expenses effectively start (the amount of money you can spend on the election) and other party’s can make you count any expenditure from the date you call your self the “Candidate” towards that limit. For this reason I am announcing today that it is my intention to put myself forward as an independent candidate for the Northampton South Parliamentary seat on the day at which an election is called and published by the electoral officer
